You may perform the following steps to locate the Product Identification Number (PID) in Windows XP:
1. Right click "My Computer" icon and click on "Properties".
2. Under "General" tab, you will find the Product Identification Number (PID), which is a 20-digit string of numbers.
If the Product Identification Number (PID) contains "OEM" in it then you are using a copy of Windows XP that came pre-installed from a computer manufacturer (like Acer, Dell, HP, Sony, or other).
If you are using a single copy of Windows XP and determined that the PID contains 640 in the second column then most likely you are using a Volume Licensing Key and your copy of Windows XP may not be a genuine one. More information related to this is found at the following Microsoft Web page:
