How to find the Product Key in Windows XP?

You may find the Product Key which is the 25-character string at the following places:

1. Sticker on the bottom of a laptop or side of a PC (Windows only).
2. Sticker on shrink wrapped disk package.
3. Printed on product documentation.
4. Orange or yellow sticker on CD case.

From the above provided places, you may locate the Product Key. However, if you are unable to locate it, you may contact Microsoft for obtaining a replacement Product Key.

If you have installed Windows XP and want to locate the Product Key then the Product Key that is used to install Windows XP is still present on the machine in some form but is not readable. To view it you need a tool such as Magical Jelly Beans 'KeyFinder'.

You may visit the following Web page to download the Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder:

Note: If Windows XP came packaged with your computer and is not the retail version (with box), the key recovered by these tools may not be your own machines key but the OEM's bulk install key. If you have manually entered a product key this will be the one returned.
